Week 1 of the PST programme

Session and Date:

29th July - Session will take place in the changing rooms at the sports performers X gym

Focus (which psychological skill will you be using and what practices you might suggest)

Had a meeting between myself and the coach and discussed the psychological demands I need to work on. We arranged that myself and the coach would perform a performance profile on sports performer X to identify psychological strengths and psychological areas for development collectively.

Strength of programme

Was good to agree with coach on areas I need to work on with sports performer X. All parties are now working in the same direction to improve sports performers X aggression levels.

Changes to make/Areas to improve for next session

Meeting took place in changing rooms, would have preferred to meet in suitable room, as sports performer X seemed uncomfortable.

Overview of 6 Week PST Programme for Amateur Boxer (Reducing Aggression)

Sports performer X is an amateur boxer, who struggles to control their aggression in competitive situations. Sports performer X becomes too aggressive in the ring and forgets their game plan for the fight. This usually results in sports performer X getting hit quite a bit, meaning that sports performer X has to come from behind in points terms to overcome their opponent.

As an assistant sports psychologist it is my aim to reduce sports perfomer X aggression and channel this in the correct terms in accordance with the game plan that is always outlined by sports perfomer X trainer.

I am going to plan a six week psychological skills training programme for sports perfomer X focusing on self talk as the psychological strategy.
